Christmas Blessing and Hope

What we all need now is hope. Just like Christmas lights bring light to a dark season, Christ brings light to a dark world. Jesus is the gift we are all given at Christmas. He is the hope we have as we celebrate his birth at Christmas. Peace on Earth is only possible through the gift of Jesus. But the angel said to them " Don't be afraid I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people ." Luke 2:10
I wish each and everyone of you a blessed Christmas as we celebrate the indescribable gift of everlasting life that came to us through the birth of Jesus.

France In Watercolor

I am in a creative mode but not with a paint brush at the moment. I am involved in a Webinarts 101 class with Leslie Saeta . You can check it out at www.saetastudio.com Sorry I could not get the link to work. Looks like another days project. I hope you enjoy my first video using Animoto and come back soon to see what else I am learning. Way out of my comfort zone but the challenge to learn something new is rather exciting. Slow but rewarding.

Make your own photo slideshow at Animoto.

Pin Mill UK

Here is one more painting from my recent trip to the UK. It was painted at Pin Mill on a windy, cool day, we were all so grateful there was no rain in the forecast . It is exciting to be in a beautiful spot painting with other painters and to see so many different paintings come out of one location. We all see our surroundings differently. You have to love it. I hope you enjoy this painting. I am busy setting up for my Apartment Art Show that starts tomorrow. November 7 - 10 If any of you happen to be in NYC and would like to come send me an email and I will share my address. Have a wonderful day.

I was painting this boat scene and all of a sudden there came these bright orange fork lifts to put these boats in storage.  You have to love plein air painting as I  have mentioned before you have to be prepared for anything just like in a hurricane.

Painting In The U.K.

I know I have been out of touch for a while , I have been on a watercolor painting trip in the U.K.  I took a class from Steve Hall at Dedham Hall in Dedham Essex. What a wonderful place to paint and get inspired. I loved doing watercolor in Plein Air and can't wait to get back at it.
I am currently getting ready for an Apartment Art Show  November 7-10  more on that later but if any of you are planning on being in the New York City area November  7-10 and would like an Evite, please email me.

                                                   Felixstowe Ferry
We traveled to many little villages , seaside towns and shipyards. This is a painting from the day we went to Felixstowe Ferry. It is larger than I usually paint as it is 11x15 ( 1/4 of a sheet ).  Steve has encouraged me to start painting larger . I do look forward to giving 1/2 sheets a try  as soon as my apartment show is over.
This watercolor is available and will be in my show.  My Apartment Show is Titled New York To Paris and will run November 7-10 again if any of you are going to be visiting the New York area and would like an Evite please let me know.

Rockport Sails

Unframed Watercolor on Arches 6"x 13"

This is the last one I am sharing in this series. This one was done in my studio from memory combining a view from Rockport Harbor and the  many sailboats I saw while walking around the harbor . Painting from memory is fun and I urge you to give it a try. When you are away from your subject you tend to put down the essence and not get bogged down with meaningless detail.  It is amazing how the feelings of the day, time, and smells do come right back to you . It is a fun way to paint and you may open yourself up to a whole new way of doing things and not having the subject right in front of you prevents you from trying to copy the view exactly and frees you up to paint your impression of the day you remember.
This watercolor is available by emailing me, or clicking on my DailyPaintWorks Gallery on the right or going to  www.dailypaintworks.com  I hope you enjoy this painting. :-D

In Remembrance Of 9/11

Living in Manhattan this is a somber day of remembrance for our city and our nation.  Please keep the families of those lost 11 years ago in prayer.

Gloucester Oceanside 2

                                                        Unframed Watercolor 10x13 on Arches

This was the second painting I did before settling in for a quiet lunch at the Inn. This was challenging for me as I had my easel balanced among the rocks , it was very windy and those little invisible bugs followed me to this spot. I did like this spot though as I loved the view, the boats nearby checking their traps and the sound of the ocean washing up on the rocks.
This watercolor is available by emailing me, clicking on My Daily Paintworks  gallery on the right or www.dailypaintworks.com   . I hope you enjoy this day .

Gloucester Harbor 3 Rocky Neck

This was painted from the Rocky Neck side of Gloucester Harbor. It is a very busy little spot and it happened to be windy that day so it was indeed a challenge to keep my easel steady.  I have found hanging a heavy backpack from it does help . check out Rocky Neck Art Colony if you get a chance It is a wonderful place to visit   Rocky Neck Art Colony     I hope you enjoy this painting . It is available through email or  www.dailypaintworks.com

Gloucester Harbor 2

Gloucester Harbor , Massachusetts

This was the second plein air I did at Gloucester Harbor. Gloucester is a wonderful working harbor with lots of activity . Boats coming and going, sea gulls trying to get a bite while the boats are being unloaded. It is a very exciting place to paint. While simplifying your subject only put in what draws you and what you think will help to make a pleasing painting. Speed is also of the essence when you are trying to paint outdoors. You only have about an hour before the light changes so decide on a plan and go for it. I do find plein air paintings have a spontaneity about them that is hard to capture once you do another one from your study in your studio.
This watercolor is 10x13 unframed and painted on Arches watercolor paper. You can purchase it by going on to  www.dailypaintworks.com or emailing me. Have a wonderful day and remember to decide on a plan and go for it . You will be glad you did.

Gloucester Harbor 1

Gloucester  Harbor   Massachusetts

Gloucester Harbor is one of my favorite places to paint. I was blessed with two beautiful plein air painting days there this summer. While painting in plein air you really need to simplify your surroundings and enjoy the process. My focus is to paint an impression of my time there. Yes, you need to embrace the wind, sounds, smells, weather, bugs, onlookers who have lots of questions as part of the process. Enjoy every minute of it. I had a wonderful time there and will post all I did in the up coming days. Enjoy and Simplify.
This watercolor was painted on Arches watercolor paper and is 10x13 unframed . You can purchase it by either emailing me or going to www.dailypaintworks.com

Here is my third plein air IMPRESSION from my Rockport adventure . IMPRESSION is the word for today. I just wanted to get down the feeling of a fishing boat. It is not exact and was done quickly but it does complete the feeling of the day I had at Rockport Harbor. When I look at all three paintings together the memory of the day is so clear to me. The wind, sound of the sea gulls, the people I spoke to as they passed by to see what I was doing and the wonderful time I had exploring the Rockport Art Association that day. I hope you enjoy this little painting and if you are interested please email me and remember you want to PRACTICE a SIMPLE IMPRESSION. See you back here in a couple of weeks as we are off on a hiking trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon. I am bringing my plein air gear along. Where I will PRACTICE SIMPLE IMPRESSIONS !

Rockport in Plein Air Continues

My first plein air adventure in a long time continues with this painting. I am practicing my new computer skills as well as photograph, load, crop edges, resize image and get my pic from camera to Adobe photoshop Elements 10 and then to my blog. Whew ! I am tired already. I am sure it will get faster the more I do it. Hmmm, just like painting PRACTICE Is The Word Of The Day. The more you try the better they will be. I have learned I can learn as much from a small painting as struggling with a big one so my goal is always 3 small ones when I am out on an adventure. Hey, if it doesn't work the first time let the paper dry and turn it over and do it a second time. That is the beauty of watercolor. I hope you enjoy this little plein air painting . These little studies are indeed my impressions of a wonderful day. If you are interested in this little painting please email me. Have a wonderful PRACTICE day and don't forget to SIMPLIFY.

Rockport in Plein Air

Well as you can tell I have been on a time out. I wish I could say I have been painting more than anything else but that has not been the case. Yes, I have been painting but mostly learning my new computer and adobe program . I have spent lots of time organizing photos and did delete 10,000 photo's. It is a nice freeing feeling and one step closer to my goal of simplifying. I have also done some traveling in between. In life as in painting we do need to simplify otherwise we put in too much detail and make our paintings too busy. We put too much in our day and we are drained at the end of the day with little to spare for tomorrow. In painting we need to make hard decisions as to what to put in and what to leave out letting the viewers eye finish the painting. In life we have to also choose how we will spend the 24 hours we have all been given. I have enjoyed my time out . Taking time out to learn something new, getting organized, giving myself permission to read instead of paint. I have also watched many painting DVD's and read lots of painting books as well. I do feel refreshed and excited about painting on our upcoming trip to Zion an Bryce Canyon. I am bring my painting gear and hope to do lots of plein air painting . I hope you enjoy this little painting. I had a wonderful time painting it. Getting reacquainted with plein air and all that it entails. It was actually a very windy day in Rockport but I loved the challenge and was still excited about my adventure at the end of the day. If you are interested in this painting please contact me. Word of the day SIMPLIFY

Painting and Resting

What a wonderful Spring break it was. We were blessed with wonderful weather and I am so grateful that my two day workshop was a success.
Now as fellow artist Dreama Tolle Perry says ," Now for some shameless self promotion "..via a student this past week, " I feel like a Master Card Commercial...What I got from our 2 days is priceless ! " I am so excited she is excited about watercolor painting and I look forward to teaching more this summer.
I will now be available for private and semi private lessons. Just email me. Thanks for stopping by. See you again soon and in the meantime keep sketching and filling up your watercolor sketchbooks.

Well I am getting back slowly as my computer crashed and died last week. I am having lots of trouble getting adobe photoshop to work but that is a problem for another day.
I hope you enjoy this piece and you are taking advantage of daylight savings time like these folks are Walking Home From Work.

The Willis Avenue Bridge

In the learning curve again. I just joined Daily Paint Works and am now trying to navigate more technology. I think I rather drive in traffic but am taking it one step at a time and learning patience in the process. I have learned my photo images are too big so after I finish this post I have to figure out how to shrink them. Patience is the word of the day. Thanks for stopping by and if any of you want to share your technology tips I would be grateful.
